If you’ve finally taken the plunge to get a puppy, congratulations! It will be one of the best and most rewarding decisions of your life. At the same time, getting a dog will also be one of the biggest commitments you make in your life as well, which is why dog training in Chicago is especially important. Here are some questions to consider before you get a puppy.

What Breed Do You Want?

The breed you choose will have a huge impact on the temperament of the dog. Maybe you always imagined your life with a German shepherd or a golden retriever, but after researching, you find another dog that is more suitable to your needs. This is a common occurrence when it comes to picking out a dog, but you will love them just the same! Once you find a breed you like, put in the leg work to find a reputable breeder. Reputable breeders DO NOT sell their puppies to pet shops! If possible, visit the breeder in person, look at their sire and dam, and ask questions along the way.

Are You Willing to Put in the Work?

Let’s face it: dogs are a lot of work. But this does not mean they are not worth it! Be prepared for walks multiple times a day and to find reputable dog training in Chicago. Our services can make all of the difference regardless of how old your dog is.

Do You Have the Proper Supplies?

Think through the supplies you’ll need. A collar, leash, food, toys, food and water dish, stain remover, brush, identification tags, a home and travel crate, nail clippers, treats and more! It may sound overwhelming and expensive at first, but it will be well-worth it in the long run!
